Fallen Tree Crushes House, High Winds Trigger Emergency in Karangasem

A twelve-meter jackfruit tree with a fifty-centimeter diameter abruptly crashed onto a family home owned by I Nyoman Daging in Banjar Dinas Bau Kaler, Nawakerti Village, Abang District, Karangasem, on Sunday, August 2, 2026. The collapse caused severe structural damage to the roof while bringing down local PLN power cables across the roadway.

Village Head I Komang Rici stated that strong winds had been battering Nawakerti since morning, which likely worsened the already brittle root system of the tree. The homeowner and family members managed to evacuate immediately before the structure sustained a total collapse, resulting in total material losses estimated at 15 million Indonesian rupiahs.

"When the incident happened, the owners were inside the house, but fortunately, there were no casualties," said Rici during a local media statement.

Following the collapse, village officials immediately alerted the Karangasem Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) because the debris obstructed public access and tangled live electricity wires. The rapid response team deployed alongside PLN personnel and local volunteers to clear the obstruction.

Joint clearance operations lasted for several hours on Sunday afternoon, successfully removing the timber debris and securing the electrical infrastructure to restore normal community access.
