South Park Changes Name to South America, Creators Mock Trump and Tech Giants

Iconic animated comedy series South Park has announced it is permanently changing its name to South America ahead of its 29th season premiere on September 16. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone cited tech giants and presidential executive orders as inspiration for the tongue-in-cheek rebrand.

Television comedy series "South Park" has officially announced a sudden name change to "South America" as the Emmy-winning show prepares for its 29th season debut on September 16. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone revealed the satirical title swap in a public statement referencing recent corporate compliance and government actions.

The rebrand arrives in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order renaming Lake Ontario to "Lake America" during an ongoing trade dispute with Canada. Digital mapping giants Apple and Google quickly updated their platforms to display "Lake America" for U.S. users while maintaining "Lake Ontario" for Canadian accounts.

"Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA," stated Parker and Stone. "We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount -- a Skydance Capitulation."

The jab at corporate restructuring follows an $8 billion merger between Paramount and Skydance, approved by regulators after Paramount settled a $16 million lawsuit with Trump over a 2024 CBS "60 Minutes" interview. Additional controversy surrounded the cancellation of comedian Stephen Colbert's late-night show following public accusations of media appeasement.

Industry observers note that the bold satirical pivot ensures the animated series remains front-and-page news ahead of its upcoming season return. Representatives for Paramount and the White House have declined to immediately comment on the program's latest parody stunt.
