Haley Stevens Blasts Bernie Sanders, Calls Middle East Stance An Extremist Sickness

Representative Haley Stevens, D-Mich., who recently lost the Michigan Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, criticized Senator Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., for his Middle East policy during an interview published on Thursday. Stevens characterized the progressive senator's vocal opposition to Israeli military funding as part of an anti-Zionist sickness that links toward extremism.

Sanders has consistently pushed to halt U.S. military aid to Israel and has sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration over the ongoing conflict in Gaza. In contrast, Stevens defended Israel as more than just a political punching bag and argued that anti-Zionism has negatively influenced domestic politics.

'I really don't know what Bernie Sanders has done for peace in the Middle East, for Palestinian dignity; I can't think of anything he's totally done,' said Stevens during her interview with The Jerusalem Post.

The remarks have drawn pushback from progressive commentators and human rights advocates who defend Sanders' legislative efforts. Critics argue that continued military assistance contradicts international human rights standards and federal laws regarding foreign aid recipients.

Despite her sharp criticism of progressive foreign policy, Stevens has officially endorsed El-Sayed for the general election while urging him to distance himself from far-left figures. The intra-party friction highlights ongoing debates among Democrats regarding foreign policy and electoral strategy in critical swing states.
