Swansea City Nears Free Agent Striker Deal, Boosting Championship Promotion Hopes
Swansea City is reportedly closing in on the ambitious signing of free agent striker Ross Stewart following his recent exit from Southampton. According to reports from journalist Pete O'Rourke, the experienced forward is poised to make a surprise switch to the Swansea.com Stadium ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 30-year-old striker recently became a free agent after his contract with Southampton ended in late June, having made 50 appearances and scored 12 goals for the Saints. Swansea hopes to leverage funds from Ethan Galbraith's sale to Stoke City to finalize the recruitment of high-profile additions this summer.
"Stewart would be a fantastic addition and bring proven quality to our attacking lineup," noted club sources close to the ongoing negotiations regarding the player's medical and personal terms.
Head coach Vitor Matos aims to push the Welsh club into the Championship play-offs this season, with Stewart providing crucial firepower and direct competition for forward Zan Vipotnik. The addition demonstrates Swansea's strong intent to remain competitive following the arrivals of Elijah Just and Moussa Yeo.
Swansea City will face Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup this weekend before traveling to play Stoke City away in their next league fixture on Saturday.
