Trump Urges Ukraine to Halt Russian Diesel Strikes, Citing Surging U.S. Fuel Prices

U.S. President Donald Trump publicly called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt long-range drone strikes targeting Russian diesel production facilities. Speaking from his golf club in Ireland on Sunday, Trump warned that the ongoing attacks are disrupting global supplies and driving American fuel prices to record highs above six dollars a gallon.

U.S. President Donald Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday to cease all military strikes against Russian diesel facilities to combat a severe global supply crunch. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Irish Open at his Doonbeg golf club, Trump emphasized that American motorists are facing unprecedented fuel costs as the conflict impacts international energy markets.

The appeal follows a sharp spike in U.S. retail fuel averages, which surpassed six dollars a gallon on Friday just weeks ahead of critical midterm elections in November. Ukraine's multi-month campaign against Russia's energy sector has forced sweeping domestic fuel rationing, prompting Moscow to ban diesel exports and severely tightening global reserves.

"Mr. Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia," Trump told reporters during the press briefing. 'We spoke to Mr. Zelenskyy about it. There are plenty of other targets. Don't hit diesel fuel, because that's hurting, that's hurting the world.'

Meanwhile, the conflict escalated overnight with large-scale drone exchanges resulting in casualties and industrial damage near key border areas. Local officials confirmed that two people were killed and 14 others injured in Russia's Tatarstan region after a drone strike sparked a fire near a major oil and industrial hub in Nizhnekamsk.

The escalating energy infrastructure attacks highlight the deepening economic fallout of the four-year war as diplomatic efforts face mounting hurdles. While Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that tripartite peace talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. could resume as early as October, fundamental disagreements over territorial sovereignty remain unresolved.
