Meta AI Assembles Terrifying Personal Data From Family Photos, User Warns

Instagram user Kalie Robins posted a video of herself and her young daughter singing in a car last week, carefully concealing the child's face to maintain privacy. However, a copyright notification regarding background music led her to notice an unexpected Meta AI prompt asking, 'Who's the child passenger?'

When Robins clicked the prompt, the artificial intelligence began pulling detailed personal data from her extended family's public profiles, including newborn photos, birth information, and deleted posts. The system ultimately generated prompts asking about her family's location and her children's daily routines.

'The fact that it compiled all that information and then offered it, that's the problem,' said Robins in an interview with Yahoo Tech, noting that the data was harvested from photos and videos posted by her friends and relatives over the years.

Technology experts point out that large language models and context-aware tools increasingly stitch together digital footprints across interconnected social networks without explicit user consent. This automated synthesis highlights the hidden vulnerabilities of posting family moments online, as AI algorithms easily bypass individual privacy settings by leveraging a user's broader social graph.

A Meta spokesperson stated that the feature was designed to provide relevant information but acknowledged that the system "missed the mark" by generating inappropriate questions, confirming the specific issue has since been resolved.
