Donald Trump Shows Melania New Helipad, Tour Highlights Massive Renovation
President Donald Trump took First Lady Melania Trump on a tour of the newly constructed helipad on the White House South Lawn on Friday. Accompanied by Donald Trump Jr., the couple inspected the grounds following their return from a memorial service for the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks at the Pentagon.
The tour showcased extensive modifications to the executive mansion, featuring strips of unlaid sod and a leveled landscape designed to match the new concrete landing zone. The construction follows weeks of intensive labor that required tearing up parts of the historic lawn and rebuilding portions of the granite presidential seal.
"We had a lot of slope on it, and I felt it was too much slope," said Trump while discussing the grounds adjustments with reporters during an earlier project inspection.
The lawn adjustments and helipad are part of a broader series of upgrades across the executive grounds with a combined estimated cost approaching $1 billion. Central to these developments is the ongoing construction of a new White House ballroom, replacing the former East Wing after a favorable Supreme Court ruling cleared the way in August.
Heavy machinery and active crews remain stationed on the grounds as structural work on the presidential ballroom continues ahead of schedule.
