Teen Arrested For Girlfriend's Murder, Columbia County Sheriff's Office Says
Law enforcement officials in Columbia County arrested 19-year-old Isaiah Campbell on a murder charge following the death of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Nicole Lopez, during an incident on Thursday. Deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office arrived at a residence on NW Moore Road around 4:19 a.m. after Campbell called 911 to report that his partner had stopped breathing.
Investigators revealed that Lopez suffered blunt force trauma and stab wounds during an altercation inside the home. Although Campbell initially told dispatchers that the victim had fallen and hit her head, medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene upon discovering she was already cold to the touch.
'The Columbia County Sheriff's Office would like to recognize and thank the members of this agency and the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office who worked tirelessly through the night,' the agency stated in a released statement addressing the double homicide response within a 24-hour window.
Investigators detained Campbell at the property, conducted interviews, and booked him into the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond following a court appearance on Friday morning. Law enforcement officials also highlighted resources for victims of domestic abuse as community advocates emphasized how quickly household disputes can escalate.
The victim's mother expressed deep grief over the loss of her only child, sharing that her daughter was widely known for her bright personality and compassionate spirit. Anyone possessing additional details regarding the ongoing homicide investigation is urged to contact local authorities or Crime Stoppers immediately.
