Phil Collins reveals organ failure and alcoholism battle, kids called to bedside

Music icon Phil Collins faced a life-threatening medical emergency in 2024 when severe alcoholism and failing organs left him unconscious in a Swiss hospital. His manager urgently called his five children—Lily, Joely, Simon, Nicolas, and Matthew—to the hospital as doctors evaluated whether to keep him on life support.

"My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up," Collins explained during an interview with The Sunday Times. While he has no personal memory of those critical days, his family carried the heavy burden of preparing for a final goodbye.

"They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong," Collins admitted, noting that he considers himself deeply fortunate to have survived the ordeal.

The terrifying health scare served as an immediate turning point for the legendary singer, who confirmed he has completely abstained from alcohol since the incident. Months later, he shared emotional moments reconnecting with his daughter Lily, who expressed gratitude for receiving extra time with her father.

Despite his recovery, Collins continues to manage ongoing health challenges, utilizing a 24-hour live-in nurse and medication management. He currently resides with permanent lifestyle accommodations after decades of international stardom as the frontman of Genesis.
